Make Time is a neighborhood art studio, workshop space, gallery, and small retail shop that we're building with one goal in mind: creating a place where people can make art, learn new skills, support local artists, and spend time together. Founded by artists and educators Lacy Nance and Shane Donaldson, Make Time will offer workshops for all ages, student-led youth programming, open studio time, and a curated shop featuring handmade artwork, prints, jewelry, ceramics, zines, and other small goods by local artists and makers. More than anything, we hope it becomes a place where creativity feels accessible, neighbors feel welcome, and people can slow down and enjoy making things together.

Our vision has been shaped by the people and places that came before us. We're especially inspired by Meghan from Palm + Pine, whose commitment to the West Asheville community showed us what it looks like to build a business rooted in generosity, creativity, and genuine connection. The relationships she built with her neighbors made a lasting impression on us, and we're honored to have the opportunity to continue that spirit in this space while creating something that reflects our own experiences as artists, educators, and community members.

Like so many people in Western North Carolina, Hurricane Helene changed the way we think about community. Watching neighbors organize, share resources, volunteer their time, and care for one another reminded us how important it is to have places that bring people together long before they're needed in a crisis. That experience became a catalyst for Make Time and strengthened our desire to invest our time and energy back into the community that has given us so much. Our hope is to create a space where local artists can share their work, people of all ages can discover new creative skills, and neighbors can connect through workshops, conversations, community projects, and the simple act of spending time together. We believe strong communities are built through everyday relationships, and we hope Make Time can become one small part of that.
